Job Description:
Solar Electrical Design Engineer will work with a team of Salespeople, Design Engineers, Project Managers, Finance team and Engineering Consultants to design, review, and approve designs for commercial, government, and utility scale solar PV projects ranging in size from 50kW to 5MW and up.
Responsibilities:
•Coordination with Salespeople, Project Managers, and other project participants
•Conduct site visits for solar feasibility evaluation using industry tools
•Site layout, planning and design components to address site-specific requirements
•Preparation of detailed mechanical, electrical, civil and/or structural designs for rooftop systems and ground-mounted solar arrays
•Creating and maintaining AutoCAD drawing packages
•Creating Bills of Materials for projects
•Interact with vendors and provide assessment and recommendations on new technology
•Support permitting efforts with utilities, building departments and other project related entities
•Provide testing, inspections and commissioning to conform with design and optimal system operation
•Produce installation and O&M manuals
•Assisting Salespeople and construction Project Managers with design, size, feasibility, technology related questions
•Interface with external and PEGs strategic partners on technology, calculations, and engineering professional stamps
•Assist with responding to RFPs
•Other duties may be assigned
Requirements:
•Self-motivated, team player and committed to excellence with excellent time management skills
•Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks with strong attention to detail in a business with changing priorities
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•A Bachelors degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering OR 2+ years Experience in Engineering or Design
•Experience with cost estimation of designs
•Experience coordinating with utilities
•Knowledge of electrical design, materials and methods of installation, especially in power generation
•Strong design and engineering skills
•Photovoltaics (PV) experience crucial
•NABCEP certification, prior PV design and/or field experience a plus
•Familiarity with the following tools/programs:
•Solar Pathfinder and Solmetric SunEye
•Google Sketchup or Other Rendering Software
•Necessity: PVWatts and any other Prelim design Tool
•AutoCAD
•Microsoft Office Applications
•Microsoft Project a plus
•NEC Article 690 Requirements
